What is The Little Grape That Could?
We are a non-profit wine company that donates all our profits from the sale of our wine to a charity of your choice.
How does a purchase support charity?
Each bottle of our wine has a unique code on it. When you plug in the code at our website, you can select a charity that you want to support. Every six months, we tally up all the charity selections made at the website. Then, we donate all our profits to these charities in the proportions dictated by purchasers’ selections.
How much money is generated for charity from each bottle?
We sell bottles of wine to the LCBO for about $3.82. Of that, about $2.82 goes to our expenses and the remaining $1 is donated to charity. Therefore, we donate about 26% of our gross revenue (which is 100% of our profit) to charity. One dollar might not sound like a lot, but remember: every little grape counts! This donation could mean 2 meals for the needy (Second Harvest) or empowering 1 earth ranger
What happens if I don’t choose a charity to support?
Funds that purchasers have not specifically directed to a charity will be donated to our registered charities. The proportion of each charity’s donation will be dictated by the amount of times they were selected by purchasers who chose a specific charity.
What expenses do you have?
If wine were free, the world would be a wonderful place, and we could give lots more money to charity. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Instead, we have to pay to produce our wine and get it to market. These costs are minimal, however, due to the tireless efforts of our generous volunteers.
Do you have employees?
Not yet. All of the time and effort that has made The Little Grape That Could possible has been donated by a fantastic and generous group of volunteers. Over 100 hundred people have been involved over the two years it took to bring this to life. To see shout-outs and get info about our team, please check out the “acknowledgements” section.
Where does the wine come from?
Why not use a local wine?
We would like to. We’re looking into it.
Do I get a tax receipt?
Nope! Our system is structured such that purchasers direct us to make donations, as opposed to making a direct donation themselves. As a non-profit organization, we will not receive a tax receipt either.
What if the charity I want to support is not on your list?
If you cannot find the registered charity you were looking for, please go to the CRA website for the complete legal name of the registered Canadian charity and their charitable number. Please contact Please send us this information and receipt of purchase by mail to 41 Derwyn Road, Toronto, ON, M4J 4N1. (If at all possible, please try to contact the charity first and get them to sign up with us!)
How can I get my favourite charity involved?
For more information on how to register your charity, please go to the charities page.
How does The Little Grape That Could select charities?
Registered Canadian charities in good standing are eligible to participate in our program. We review the applications and make a decision. We may contact charities directly to ask more questions to see if a charity is a good fit and is willing to assume some of the responsibilities to promote the wine we expect. The guidelines we use to make our decisions about charities are here. If you don’t see the name of a charity you wish to support listed on our site, you should encourage them to sign-up. Please see the “choose a charity” page for more information.
We try to make approval decisions as soon as possible, but decisions are usually made about every two months. The Little Grape is a small, all-volunteer charity and we work hard to try to get charities on board, but it can take some time for us to do our due diligence to make sure a charity meets our criteria. Unfortunately because of the volume of applications we cannot respond to requests about the status of an application (as much as we would love to). We will contact you when we have made a decision about your charity. Until then, we really appreciate your patience!
My friend is being “honoured” on some of your bottles? Can I order some with his/her name on it?
Unfortunately, due to the nature of our distribution methods, we can’t sell specific bottles, or know in which stores they’ll end up. But every “honoured friend” has a great story and they are all featured on our site. Also, if you don’t recognize the name that shows up on your bottle, you can come to the site and read about the person so you can toast to them properly!
Where can I buy the wines? Can I order cases directly from you?
At the moment, our wines will only be available for purchase from the LCBO. In addition, restaurants and bars can buy our wine from the LCBO warehouse.
